Modular Course - August 9-13, 2010

                                                                                     David Parker

What Is God's Mission (purpose) and How Is It Accomplished?

God is jealous for His own glory.  He knows He is God, and He has no real competitors.  He has made mankind for Himself.  Man finds his greatest joy in God.  This is a matter of design.  God is pursuing the worship of people from every family group on the earth.  God's mission is for God's glory and man's good (in that order).  The twin themes of the glory of God and God's pursuit of worshippers are vital to a comprehensive understanding of Scripture.  Every believer needs to know what God seeks to accomplish so that he may join God in His work.

As believers in Jesus, the One who is truth and life, we must have more than merely an interest or a participation in missions.  We must understand that the source of missions is in the heart of God Himself.  Missions is His plan, and He has been unfolding that plan from His very Creation.  We must find ourselves as motivated, active catalysts of God's all-inclusive plan.  We must ALL engage personally in finishing Christ's purpose in the earth; and we must ALL be involved in the recruiting, equipping, sending, supporting, praying, and the going forth for this all-important, glorious task of world evangelization!

Instructor:   David Parker

David Parker came to faith in Jesus Christ as a teenager.  After serving ten years with the United States Army (Infantry), he entered Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, Florida, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and earned a BA in church ministries.  His undergraduate recognition included class salutatorian and membership in the Who’s Who Among American Colleges and Universities.  His ministry experience includes an associate pastorate in Minnesota and an interim pastorate in Pennsylvania.

In 2002, Pastor Bill Duttry of First Baptist Church of Milford called upon Bro. Parker’s missions zeal to assist in founding Biblical School of World Evangelism, a college specializing in the training of missionaries.  Bro. Parker has dedicated himself to the purposeful development of missions-based courses, spear-heading a program that is both practical and academic.  In addition to being a regular course instructor, he serves as the school's vice president.

Bro. Parker’s greatest desire is to make God famous among all nations.  He has written numerous missions-infused articles and lessons motivating others in the promotion of the glory of God to all people.  His on-going education has been complemented by courses in linguistics and Biblical languages at the Summer Institute of Linguistics and on-site courses at the Biblical Language Center in Israel.  He is currently developing the addition of a linguistics program at Biblical School of World Evangelism in order to train Bible translators.

David and his wife Michele have been married for twenty-five years.  They have two daughters who are graduates of Milford Christian Academy.

FLAMMABLE BYTES FROM THE FRONTLINES

Oh, that I might be a flaming fire in the service of the Lord.  Here I am, Lord, send me; send me to the ends of the earth…send me from all that is called earthly comfort; send me even to death itself if it be but in Thy service and to promote Thy Kingdom.

- David Brainerd
